The Inspection Department is a multifaceted department
charged with assuring compliance to State Building Codes as well as the
City's Code of Ordinances. It is comprised of a building
inspector and several code enforcement officers, both fully
certified and licensed by the West Virginia State Fire Marshal's
Office. Both receive ongoing training to retain state
licensure. The building inspector is responsible to perform
compliance inspections on buildings under construction or renovation.
He/she also oversees the city's demolition program to rid neighborhoods
of dilapidated, dangerous structures. The code enforcement
officers investigate complaints about improperly maintained properties,
abandoned vehicles and other nuisances. Animal control issues
are also run through this office. Building permits are issued through
Lori Mills is the Building Code Official and code enforcement supervisor for the City of Bluefield. She is certified as a residential building inspector, property maintenance and housing inspector and permit technician by the International Code Council and the WV State Fire Marshal. She takes care of all building inspections and demolitions.
