JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Summary

This position is located in the Bluefield Fitness and Recreation Department, which maintains and provides parks, recreation facilities and programs for the public.  This position performs duties that primarily include customer service, maintenance of the FitRec facility, assistance during events and programs, and other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Assist with front desk / membership duties.
  • Provide enthusiastic, courteous, and timely service to all persons.
  • Operate computer, cash drawer and credit card terminal, while maintaining an accurate balance.
  • Assist with programs and special events.
  • Clean and sanitize equipment and bathrooms as needed.
  • Assist with child watch when needed.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with other staff members, leaders, volunteers, members, participants, parents, and the general public.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Previous experience working in a fitness center is a plus.
  • Must be able to pass a drug screen and criminal background check.
  • CPR, First Aid and AED certifications are an asset to the position.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and/or written instructions of supervisor and adhere to company policies and safety guidelines.
  • Must be flexible; willing and available to work evening, weekend and holiday shifts.

Physical Requirements

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

The position lifts objects, walks, stands, and performs physical labor. The employee lifts, pushes, pulls or carries objects; uses abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support.  The position requires good manual dexterity (hand, hand with arm, two hands) and multi-limb coordination. The position requires the ability to quickly move arms and legs. The employee must have good stamina.

Work Schedule

Schedule of 15 to 25 hours per week and days can vary.
