Discounts and Benefits
  • Effective January 1, 2018 all military retirement is tax-free.
  • Veterans with 100 % permanent and total service-connected disabilities may be exempt from certain property taxes.
  • The State of West Virginia offers a 10 % discount to veterans and active duty members on all standard lodge rooms, cabins and campsites operated by West Virginia State Parks. Veterans do not have to be a WV resident to apply.
  • Children, whose parent died while on active duty during a wartime period, or because of disability or injury suffered during wartime duty, can go to a state college free of charge.
  • Military personnel, veterans and their families have a wide range of VA Educational Benefits available to them. Bluefield State College has an on-campus Veterans Certifying Official who is available to assist with applying for your VA Educational Benefits. All Colleges and Universities around the City of Bluefield offer Veteran benefits.
  • Active duty military attending the Bluefield Fit/Rec Center are granted a membership free of charge.
  • Various retail and dining establishments located throughout the city and the area, offer discounts to veterans.
Raleigh County Community Action

This program will primarily assist very low-income veterans and their families with a range of supportive services designed to promote housing stability and prevent homelessness. Additionally, based on individual assessments, the program includes aid in obtaining VA benefits, outreach services, case management, and other up-to-date community resources that may be available in your area.
