Can you visit inmates housed in the Bluefield City Jail?

We allow visitation of inmates pending the jail is not on lock down, during the following hours 2:00 – 2:30 and 7:00 – 7:30. Visitation is only applicable for individuals arrested by BLF PD, the prisoner must have already been arraigned and all visitors must be over the age of 18 and be IMMEDIATE family members only with valid picture identification.  

The shift Commander on duty can refuse visitation for any reason.

Does Bluefield WV Police Department do background checks and fingerprints?

Yes, we offer both of those services for a nominal fee. Background checks are available for a $5.00 fee, be advised the background check only applies to records and/or events which occurred within the jurisdiction of the Bluefield WV Police Department. Fingerprints fee is $10.00, you must provide the fingerprint card. No appointment is necessary for either service as we are open 24 hours a day. We only accept cash for these services.   

How do I become a Police Officer?

When our department is hiring for Police Officers we post the job vacancy online and in serval publications throughout the state. You will come to City Hall and pick up an application packet from the City of Bluefield, City Clerk’s office. Fill it out and return the packet to the City Clerk. The applications will be reviewed, and the Clerk will make contact with you about the upcoming test dates. You will be required to pass a physical fitness test and you will also take the civil service test. Based on your background check, ranking in the result of the Civil Service Exam, Physical fitness test and interviews a hiring list will be compiled.  

How do I obtain a copy of an accident report?

To obtain a copy of an accident report mail in your request with the report number and the fee for the report (varies between $5.00 to $ 15.00 per copy) and we will either fax, email or mail a copy of the report to you. You can also come to the Police Department (Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm) and do it in person.

How do I pay a fine?

To pay a fine mail a check or Money Order to Bluefield Municipal Court, 200 South Mercer Street, Bluefield, WV 24701 or visit the Police Department (Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm) and do it in person. We accept Visa, Mastercard and Discover. For more questions call the Court Clerk at 304.327.6101 option 2.

How do I pay a parking ticket?

To pay a parking ticket put the ticket and the payment in a postage paid envelope and send it to the Police Department or visit the Department (Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm) and pay in person. We accept Mastercard, Visa or Discover. For more information call 304.327.6101 ext. 6105.
