The Bluefield Police Department is currently staffed with four K-9's, each assigned a handler, for 24|7 coverage throughout the city. The canines have been instrumental in deterring the flow of narcotics and confiscating over $100,000 worth of illegal drugs in their first year. With scent detection training, the canines are able to track missing persons, clear buildings in a shorter time frame and offer protection not only for our community, but also the courageous men and women serving in our police department.
